The growing epidemic of “you guys.”

It was recently pointed out to me while I was presenting a lesson that I (and every other person in the room whom were presenting) had said “you guys” in the double digits, all in a span of twenty minutes. Since then I have not been able to get “you guys” out of my head and I give lessons and presentations without saying this, or rarely saying it. It is a slang and a habit that has been engraved in the heads of persons of all ages, and once noticed it’s difficult to ignore. As educators and presenters we are required to have strong public speaking skills, and “you guys” is a hindrance. It isn’t a hindrance when talking with a text message or online, but there is a certain etiquette and expectation in presenting to a room of listeners.
